A Nourished Life by Eva Marie | Recipes, Reflections, and Wellbeing

A Nourished Life is a collection of seasonal recipes, reflections, and stories from the table, inspired by the belief that food is about far more than what we eat. It’s about connection, memory, comfort, and the small rituals that shape a meaningful life.

I first learned about food through experience rather than instruction, in my grandmother Eva’s spice-scented kitchen in San Antonio, where cooking was guided by taste, smell, intuition, and memory. Later, Lim Fun, a Paris-trained chef who cooked for my mother, introduced me to the discipline of precise technique and the idea that food could be both refined and soulful.

Somewhere between those two worlds, instinct and technique, I found my own way of cooking, shaped as much by my California roots and Mexican-Norwegian heritage as by the kitchens and places that have inspired me over the years. Julia Child’s The Way to Cook became a kind of bible for me, and I still treasure the food-stained copy that lived for years in the kitchen of my gourmet shop and catering business, Ruchetta, on Fishers Island, New York, where I cooked, baked, experimented, and gathered people around the table.

Today, my cooking is mostly plant-forward and often gluten-free, influenced by seasonal ingredients, travel, and a lifelong fascination with the way food connects us to people and place. Living in Europe continues to inspire my work, from market mornings and coastal walks to the slower rhythms of everyday life.

But at its heart, A Nourished Life is about balance and nourishment in the broadest sense, creating food that feels both comforting and vibrant, making space for joy, and finding meaning in the ordinary moments that often matter most.

I’m so glad you’re here.
